Volunteer Opportunities

Day Program Volunteers

Our Day Program Volunteers support our monthly programs held throughout New Hampshire and Southern Maine. Volunteers play an important role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and positive experience of every child and family who attends.

We rely on dedicated adult volunteers (minimum age 18) to help supervise activities, assist with instruction, and create an environment where children can explore, connect, and have fun in a safe and supportive setting. Volunteers may assist a program staff member with leading a group or activity, or—depending on experience—help guide a station or activity independently. Our Program Coordinator will work with you to determine a meaningful and engaging role.

Day Program Volunteers may also help capture special moments through photos and videos, helping us share the joy and impact of our programs with families and supporters.

Whether you’re leading an activity, offering a helping hand, or documenting smiles and milestones, your time and energy make a lasting difference.

Contact us for more specific position details.

Camp Program Volunteers

Our program volunteers are responsible for the safety, well-being and positive experience of our campers. We rely on the support of adult program volunteers (minimum age 18) to assist in the channeling of energy during programs by finding a balance between spontaneous play and a focus on safety at the right times.

Volunteer staff may be paired with one of our program staff to lead a group or an activity or depending on your experience you may run your own group and activities. Our program coordinator will provide guidance in determining a meaningful role for you.

Contact us for more specific position details.

Medical Volunteers

Parents need peace of mind when they allow their children with a chronic health condition to go out of sight. They need to know that their child will be able to have fun and be worry free for a while in a safe environment.

If you are a licensed medical professional (MD, NP, or RN), please join us and be part of an energizing and empowering experience for kids.

GET TO KNOW US

Each child is unique, but they also have a lot in common and can relate to each other because of their conditions. On their own, they often stand out in their communities because of their perceived limitations or needs. However, in our community, we find strength in numbers and feel empowered. The Zebra Crossings team is committed to furthering this mission.

“Before camp my son was embarrassed to go to the nurse. He wouldn’t take meds before gym, and then tried to hide his asthma symptoms and chest/lung pain.” Since camp, my son has been willing to take albuterol before gym class, has been more confident and willing to participate in groups with active outdoor activities.”

- Asthma Camp Parent

“It is an amazing experience to not feel alone in the world. To meet and share some wonderful kid stories has given me and my family so much hope for the future”

- Family Camp Parent

“Zebra Crossings has given my children a power they never would have learned to unleash. Here, they feel accepted, encouraged and understood. They are taught that what they believe to be their inadequacies, can really be the fire that burns inside of them and makes them a stronger, more courageous, and joyous person. Truly, Zebra Crossings has changed our lives for the better.”

- Thaia Katsos

“Zebra Crossings is a fun place where you can go and feel safe because they understand how you feel. You get to express yourself and experience all kinds of things and nothing holds you back.”

- Luke, age 10

“I am not sure there are many places where there are such kind, caring people.  It is also a place where others have chronic illnesses, some the same as yours.  It makes it a lot of fun to just talk and relate to someone that you can’t necessarily do at school.”

- Teen participant

The efforts of Zebra Crossings are supported by our generous sponsors, both individual and business. Want to join the ranks?
